CFC NEWSLETTER, MAY 2026 — SURVIVING THE FWA

To our future attendees,

Let us dive into this month's newsletter. This month we'll be discussing our FWA table, some adjustments to our vendor hall, a new space created by those adjustments to our vendor hall, our upcoming epic crossover event with DC Fur Meet on June 19th, our on-going suite lottery/application process and some general thoughts on our on-going registration process.

The FWA Effect

If you didn't catch our last newsletter, Capital FurCon had its first official convention presence at Furry Weekend Atlanta this year with a table in FWA's Vendor Hall!

So… How did it go?

In one word: Fantastic!

For those who stopped by our booth during FWA weekend, thank you! The amount of support and excitement we received honestly exceeded our expectations.

Over the course of the weekend, FWA attendees had the chance to meet members of our staff team including myself, Ralek (Art Lead), Bowser (Charity Lead), Kaedo (PR Lead), Bodie (PR Deputy), Twoshoes (Vendor Lead), and Eonis (Vendor Relations Deputy).

One thing that surprised us the most was just how many DMV locals we met. We spoke with attendees from DC, Virginia, and Maryland, as well as Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and beyond.

If you stopped by to chat, ask questions, grab merch, or just say hello: Thank you! We hope we made a good first impression and answered all your questions during our brief chats.

FWA also gave us a massive boost online.

Between our presence at FWA and the registration promo we had going there, and the launch of our suite applications we've seen a major increase in website traffic, social media engagement, and registrations overall. We're incredibly excited for the momentum we have going into the summer and we're running on all cylinders as we get prepped for CFC's first year.

We also received a ton of feedback on our first round of merchandise and branding. Huge shoutout to our art team for helping us get convention merch ready this early into our planning. The response was overwhelmingly positive, especially regarding CFC's overall visual identity and themed styling.

And yes, for those wondering: people really liked Jet. Both versions of him 😉.

Based on attendee feedback we're happy to say that the art direction and design style you've seen so far from CFC will remain consistent through the rest of this year. Future merch will continue building on that same quality and aesthetic.

Finally, our registration promo at FWA was extremely well received. Because of that, we plan to continue offering similar promos at future events whenever possible.

At the moment, DC Fur Meet is our only planned outreach event, but we're actively networking with other conventions and meets to expand those opportunities moving forward.

As always, we'll post updates on our social media as new events are confirmed.

Vendor Hall & Artist Alley Changes

After reviewing our current projections and vendor-to-attendee ratios, we've decided to make several quality-of-life improvements to our Vendor Hall layout for Year One.

Updated Vendor Hall Layout

The biggest change is that Artist Alley and the Dealer's Den will now be merged into one unified vendor space.

To support this change, we are also reducing the total number of vendor slots. Our updated target is approximately 40–45 vendors total, alongside a reduction of Artist Alley capacity from 180 slots to 100.

Why make this adjustment?

Simply put: we want vendors and artists to succeed.

One of the biggest things we've been monitoring throughout planning is making sure the attendee-to-vendor ratio remains healthy and sustainable. After reviewing our numbers, we felt the original layout risked oversaturating the space. These changes should create a stronger sales environment overall while improving traffic flow and visibility for everyone involved.

As an added bonus, merging these spaces frees up a large section of the Woodrow Wilson area that was originally allocated for Artist Alley.

Which means:

More event space.

This newly available area will now be used for larger meetups, social gatherings, and additional programming throughout the weekend. We're incredibly excited about the added flexibility this gives our Events team and the opportunities it creates for activities we originally didn't have room for.

Turns out removing tables from a room does, in fact, create room.

The Most Epic Crossover to Ever Crossover in the History of Crossovers Crossing Over (DCFM x CFC)

DC Fur Meet x Capital FurCon crossover

As many of you have no doubt seen on our social media, we are planning a Happy Hour crossover at Live K Karaoke at National Harbor with DC Fur Meet. We would like to thank DC Fur Meet's event organizers for working with us to run this event. Additionally, this event also overlaps with our event site inspection, which allows us to have a large deal of event staff on site for everyone to meet!

For those unfamiliar with this upcoming event, please see the event details below:

We hope to see you all there!

Registration 3: Hindsight is 2028

The last major thing to discuss in our newsletter this month is how registration is going on our end. So far our systems are holding up rather well and we're maintaining a very steady flow of new account creations on our ConCat!

Additionally, the hotel is prepped and ready to launch our room block on schedule! If we have a sudden influx of registrations that wipe out our room block, we are already in talks with the hotel to secure more rooms for our attendees. We know you're all excited for a convention at the Gaylord, so we're planning ahead to make sure everyone will be able to attend! For those of you who register as super sponsor, in the event of a room block expansion, you will have guaranteed early booking access to new blocks as they open.

Closing Remarks

We leave you all with two final notes. First, please be on the lookout for two more big updates coming soon. One of which will be a general discussion about the overall theming of the convention, the atmosphere and activities we're looking to foster and the audience that we're looking to cater to. The second major update will be its own news post and will be made as soon as we have confirmation on a few things with the Gaylord.

Have a good rest of the month and see you all in the next post!

CFC NEWSLETTER, APRIL 2026 — THE SUITE LOTTERY (Lets Go Gambling!)

To our future attendees,

Please allow me to describe my introduction thoughts for this month's newsletter in one image:

Newsletter intro meme

And let's get right into things! Today we're going to be discussing more info about our room block, the application and lottery process for suites at CFC, as well as some cool details about our stage.

Event Suites

Do you attend furby conventions? Do you like hosting events? Do you ever wish that you (yes you!) could have a room in a hotel with multiple rooms? Well boy oh boy, do we have the suites for you! Presenting the Gaylord's Executive Suites:

Gaylord Executive Suite Gaylord Executive Suite Gaylord Executive Suite Gaylord Executive Suite

(Atrium view rooms are not guaranteed and executive suite layouts vary.)

The Gaylord has offered us ten of these bad boys for our convention purposes. Each of these suites will be located deep within our room block to limit noise issues. In order to get one of these suites, you must be planning to bring or host some form of room event at least once during CFC. This could be anything from a fursuit maker gathering to more niche events.

For those interested please see our application form here: COMMING SOON

As noted on the form, to prevent any issues with a hotel discovering commercial-grade stage and audio equipment set up in a guest room, we'd like to offer the option of using our event space as an alternative venue for hosting the event.

Applications Open: April 27th

Applications Close: June 28th

Lottery Suites

In addition to the previously mentioned suites, the Gaylord has provided us with an additional ten suites which we are offering via lottery to attendees. Please keep in mind that these are not event suites. We recommend keeping tabs on noise levels if you plan on hosting any kind of event in them. These suites are given away at random for any attendance tier.

In order to enter the lottery, please see the google form here for more details: COMMING SOON

Applications Open: April 27th

Applications Close: June 28th

Main Stage

With regards to the Main Stage layout, we're focusing on a straight-forward stage design with a small catwalk to allow attendees the opportunity to be closer to our performers. We are currently working to have a mix of actual live performances and DJs throughout the night performing varying genres. Additionally, we are looking into having more low sensory options for attendees with medical conditions that could be affected by flashing lights or other stage effects by providing a few sets with low intensity lighting.

Aside from musical events, we plan on hosting a dance competition as well as other non-musical performances in this space. Please stay tuned for more information in future months as we approach the convention's dates.

The National Harbor Welcomes You!

Earlier this month, the NHCVA, the tourism authority for the National Harbor, reached out to CFC to discuss our upcoming event. They're quite excited to have us in the area and will be working with us to provide a fun local atmosphere for attendees. For those of you familiar with MAGFest and Katsucon, the NHCVA will be reaching out to local businesses on our behalf to provide our attendees with the same offers that attendees to those conventions get.

Additionally, the NHCVA has provided us with a full area layout for our attendees. The current map provided is updated for 2026, so there might be a few changes going into 2027. Highlights for the area include:

  • 30+ Food Options! Includes:
    • Bobby McKey's Dueling Piano Bar
    • Fogo de Chao (Brazilian Steakhouse)
    • Redstone American Grill
    • Silver Diner
    • BurgerFi

    • The Yard Milkshake Bar
    • And more!

CFC NEWSLETTER, MAR 2026 - LAUNCH

To our future attendees and the furry community,

We're so back with another round of CFC information dumping! I'm McChaffee, the director of Capital Fur Con (CFC), and today we're going to be discussing our theme, our charity, the launch of registration (which is happening VERY soon) and several important announcements regarding vendor, event, and panel applications!

CFC Launch Theme Announcement

Art By: Sly, Bagel Bytes, TwoShoes

Launching to the Final Frontier

Space, the final frontier. This is the maiden voyage of the convention, Capital Fur Con. Its 4 day mission: to explore a new convention hotel, to seek out new forms of fun, to boldly go where no furry convention has gone before! But to get there, we must launch this convention!

We at Capital Fur Con are proud to announce our official convention theme, "Launch"! Bagel Bytes, Sly and Twoshoes, our artists on staff have begun to work on our official theme and we are happy to begin sharing updates with you. They have worked hard to provide us with a fun selection of characters and this theme image!

As you can see in the art above, we're working on a few different character designs! The first major event we can announce this year for CFC will be a mascot election! CFC will be featuring three major mission crew members all competing for mission MVP.

When attendees check in at registration to pick up their badge or wristbands they'll be able to vote for their favorite character! The winning character will be selected as the main character for next year's theme, which will be announced at the closing ceremony of CFC.

We'll be slowly rolling out more art, and soon, merch related to our theme! We also plan to have a regular merchandise and information stand at DC Fur Meet as well as other local/national events. Keep an eye out on our website and social media for updates!

Our Partnered Charity

Capital Fur Con is proud to announce that we will be partnering with NoVA Prism Center, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. NoVA Prism Center is a private library and community center for the Northern Virginia LGBTQIA+ community that provides access to education and community resources highlighting LGBT+ lives, bodies and history. NoVA Prism Center focuses on supporting LGBTQIA+ folks of all ages and multiple marginalized communities in the region.

We really appreciate the opportunity to work with NoVA Prism and look forward to helping their mission. For more information about the NoVA Prism Center, please check out our charity page here: https://capitalfurcon.org/charity

Registration 2: The Registrationing

CFC is pleased to announce that our registration for the convention will be opening on March 23rd, 2026 at 5:00PM EST. We've partnered with ConCat to handle our registration process, which can be found at this link: ConCat, or under our "Attend" tab in our header via the "Register Now!" button! Simply go to that page, make an account, select your tier and go through the payment process to register for CFC.

As mentioned in our last news post, early registration really helps us out! With early registration numbers, we'll have a better idea of how to plan our logistics and capacity requirements accordingly. At this time we're waiting on more data to come in to make some determinations, specifically with potentially roomblock expansions, so the sooner we get registration estimates, the better!

We'll be running an early bird registration special until September 1st! This discount will be unavailable after it ends, so please take advantage of it while it lasts!

Applications, Applications, Applications!

Now that we're opening registration, we wanted to address a few important questions around vendor and panel applications. We're happy to announce our application dates here for those interested in applying to CFC for the following:

Dealer's Den, Adult Dealer's Den & Midnight Market

  • Applications Open: July 6th
  • Applications Close: August 31st

Artist's Alley

  • Applications Open: April 6th
  • Applications Close: When Full

Artists will be able to book a maximum of two time slots initially. Slots that have not been filled will be open on a first-come first-serve basis at the convention regardless of slots previously booked.

Panels

  • Applications Open: August 1st
  • Applications Close: September 30th

More details will be available as we get closer to these dates, please keep an eye out for announcements! Additionally, we'll be announcing application dates for both our main stage performances and suites next month!

Rooms? ROOMS!? ROOOOOOOOOMS!!!

While we're here, we're going to leave this quick announcement for our room block:

  • Super Sponsor Room Block Early Access Opens: Early July
  • Regular Room Block Access Opens: Late July

We'll have the official dates posted ASAP once we have confirmation from the hotel! Thank you for your patience!

CFC NEWSLETTER, FEB 2026 - REGISTRATION, REGISTRATION AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, REGISTRATION

To our future attendees and the furry community,

Welcome back to CFC's website for another round of information dumping. I'm McChaffee, the director of Capital Fur Con (CFC), and today we're going to be discussing what's been going on behind the scenes here at CFC in the month since our January convention announcement. This is gonna be a bit of a doozy, so grab some popcorn and buckle up.

The Immediate Community Response

First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone who took the time to respond to our social media posts. As a new convention, we were quite nervous with how we would be received, but we were blown away with how overwhelmingly positive your reactions were! We were definitely concerned about how sudden our reveal was to the local community, but I guess that's part of the fun of starting a new convention with little warning!

Please know that we're listening to all feedback regarding the convention and the way we're communicating. We're actively making changes and updating our website to better provide information to the community and will continue to do so as more feedback comes in. Additionally, we are committing to publishing a monthly newsletter on our website. Plus, our social media profiles (which you can find here: X - Bluesky) will become more active starting next month now that our social media team has had time to settle in.

On a brief side note, we highly appreciate those of you who joined our VR group and I personally wanted to say that these instances of hitting over 80 attendees AND having a queue is wild! We're currently working on figuring out a few solutions to improve our instances in VR in regards to moderation so that we can leave our worlds open for people to discover and hangout. In the event that anything disruptive happens, please let anyone with a staff tag know so we can deal with those problems. As a reminder, due to there being some distrust regarding uploading identification to third party platforms (see the current discord debacle), we do try to enforce a generally casual PG-13 atmosphere in our instances so we can keep them open without demanding age verification. While the convention is 21+, it's impossible to enforce this in VR without using VRChat's age verification platform, which we do not want to require.

The Industrial Registration and its Consequences have been a Disaster for the Furry Fandom

Now that this section's meme title has caught your attention, let's dive into the information that you're really here for, registration. As you may be aware, originally our plan was to launch registration this month. However, getting our registration system settled took longer than we expected, and we wanted additional time for our staff to get familiar with ConCat, so we shifted the launch back a month and our preliminary registration opening date is now planned to be Monday, March 23rd.

For those of you unfamiliar with the name ConCat, I have great news for you! If you've been to AnthroCon, Megaplex and Further Confusion (as well as several other conventions), you've actually used this system before without knowing it. If you've never used it before, it's quite a simple system, and built by furries! ConCat is currently one of the most-used back-ends for Furry Conventions that effectively handles most of the registration process and will greatly help our convention.

That being said, while we're still working on the system, we can still dive into and discuss our registration tiers and other information regarding the registration process.

Our Registration Tiers

One thing that CFC is trying to do to improve the convention registration process is keeping our registration tiers simple. We're offering three tiers of regular registration and two unique higher donation tiers. By keeping our tiers straightforward, we're able to better load value into them for our attendees. Registration Policy

Regarding our policies for registration, please view them here on our website: https://capitalfurcon.org/registration-policy

Registering Early Helps Us Out

CFC is a brand new convention, so we don't have any historical attendance data to guide our planning. For first-year events, pre-registered and at-the-door attendance can vary widely, making it difficult to predict turnout accurately.

Because of this, pre-registration is extremely valuable to us. It provides a reliable baseline that helps us plan staffing, space, programming, and overall logistics. The only other indicator of our attendance is our room block data, so each pre-registration makes a meaningful difference in our ability to prepare effectively.

So, if you know you're planning on coming to CFC, please register early! It will really help us out.

A Preview of Things to Come

Thanks for sticking with us so far! Our next newsletter will announce our official convention theme, the application process for events (panels and more) and will discuss our mainstage. For now, please see some concept previews of our standee characters from one of our art team members, Bagel Bytes, below:

WIP Mascots Concept

Can you guess what our theme is before our announcement? Hint: It's related to the final frontier!

- Until the next newsletter, this is McChaffee and CFC's PR team signing off!

ANNOUNCING CAPITAL FUR CON 2027

To our future attendees and the furry community,

Good morning from Washington D.C. and the greater Washington D.C. metropolitan area! I’m McChaffee, the director of Capital Fur Con (CFC), and I’ve prepared this blog post to give everyone a rundown of our first convention event and plans for 2027 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

As a new convention, there’s still a great deal of planning ahead, but we’re comfortable with our current plans and ready to answer several questions we’ve been asked over the past few months. We hope that this will help build hype and enthusiasm for our convention! We eagerly look forward to the community joining us on February 25th, 2027!

The Plans

Running a new convention is difficult! Thankfully, we took a great deal of precaution with this event and planned to begin organizing it over a year out. We actually had our first official in-person majority board meeting in the Hyatt’s lobby at Megaplex where we officially agreed to go ahead with this convention and file our paperwork.

Over the months since that meeting, we’ve established the core of our plans for this convention, the key things to note are as follows:

  • We are a non-profit 501(c)3 charity 21+ convention. We recognise that a great deal of attendance at furry conventions typically skews towards mid-late 20s and plan to directly cater to this crowd. Additionally, we want to foster a fun atmosphere that will make event hosts and the hotel(s) comfortable by confirming that our attendees are of the age to drink.
  • We’re keeping our first year simple! One of the difficult things about running a first year convention is that there is no data available for us to rely on! For this reason, our internal planning process is focusing on running a modest event. We won’t have the flashiest first convention ever, but we’ll have a well organized one. At this time we can confirm that we will have the following:
    1. Dealer’s Den, Adult Dealer’s Den, Artist Alley and Events Hall
    2. Main Stage (w/ Raves and Events!)
    3. Panels and Community Meetups
    4. Gaming Lounge
    5. Charity Auction
    6. Suit Lounge
  • We are working with the Gaylord to have a functional event block. Thankfully, the Gaylord has a great deal of experience with social event functions from hosting MAGfest and Katsucon, so they’re familiar with conventions of this nature. We’re going to be sorting out the details of how to opt-in for these rooms next month via our registration setup through ConCat. Please keep an eye out for a future post regarding this!

The Vendor Halls

We’ve had our vendor team fully go over the space and are now ready to post the early official plans. Please see our early mock-up (table positions, amount of tables and booths are subject to change as needed):

Vendor Hall Layout

The specifics are as follows:

  • We’re going to provide space for around 60 Dealer’s Den vendors maximum in order to avoid vendor over saturation, provide plenty of space and keep the overall vibe comfy.
  • We’re going to provide space for between 10-20 Artist Alley vendors depending on demand. Additionally, these slots will have a change-over period halfway through each day.
  • We’re going to provide space for around 15 Adult Dealer’s Den vendors maximum in order to avoid over saturation, provide plenty of space and keep the overall vibe comfy.

The numbers and layout for the Dealer’s Den are subject to change if there are lower/higher demands for booths and double table setups.

The Event Hall

CFC is officially going to have an event hall for other partnered events. These could be for other conventions, related non-profit organizations or local community events. Additionally, we are planning to have our merch store in this section to boost traffic for these tables. Tables will be offered in this hall via a table swap partnership agreement or via application. Additionally, we will allow the tables in this hall to sell merchandise related to their events.

It should be noted that tables in this hall will be FREE for recognized non-profit organizations. We will also provide attendance badges for non profit organizations and events who agree to a table swap partnership.

At this time, we have one planned table swap event in this hall:

Furry Weekend Atlanta (FWA) has graciously offered us a table at their event. We will be providing a table to them at CFC in return. We hope they enjoy CFC! Additionally, we look forward to discussing more about our FWA table in future posts!

The Room Block

Going back to our plans, there’s a good amount for us to discuss regarding our room block. Going into year one, we’re being careful with how many rooms we’re looking to reserve so as to not over-estimate our attendance. For this reason, we’ve opted for a smaller initial room block of 300 rooms, including 20 suites.

Thankfully, in the event that we fill our room block, the Gaylord will make it easier for us to expand and offer more rooms as needed. Additionally, in the unlikely event that we run out of rooms at the Gaylord, there are plenty of secondary options available.

We would like to provide some additional information regarding our room block here:

  • We’re looking to have about 180 Queen Rooms and 80 King Rooms.
  • The provided suites for this event are the Gaylord’s executive suites.
  • Some rooms in our block are being set aside for our convention staff currently, hence the provided numbers appear short.
  • We’ll likely be opening the room block to the general attendance and sponsor tiers in June. Super sponsor and higher tiers will have early access.

Suites will be offered via two systems:

  1. Half of our suites will be offered randomly via an opt-in lottery. You must be registered to attend CFC to enter this lottery. This will occur prior to the room block opening.
  2. The other half of our suites will be offered via an application system. We want to provide these suites to attendees looking to host room events. This will occur prior to the room block opening.

We will not be offering any atrium rooms in our block at this time due to our inability to secure a good rate (due to our smaller initial room block size), but attendees may choose to upgrade to an atrium if they like at the hotel’s rate and availability. If we can secure atrium rooms at a better rate if we expand, we will provide notice and upgrade opportunities.

Pricing:

  • At this time, our prices are $259 for regular rooms and $410 for suites.
  • Rooms and suites both incur a daily $27 resort fee charge.
Resort Fee Benefits
  • Two welcome glasses of beer, wine, or a cocktail at any of the resort’s bars!
  • Two bottles of Aquafina water per room per day!
  • Daily transportation on the National Harbor Circulator Bus!
  • Pool access!
  • 24/7 fitness center access!
  • And a few more smaller benefits listed on our website here: https://www.capitalfurcon.org/hotel

Answering Some Questions

I’d like to take some time to address a few questions that we’ve been asked regarding this convention and hopefully clear up any confusion:

How/Why did you book the Gaylord? Isn’t that expensive?

Answer: So without really diving into discussing our contract details, the Gaylord was quite enthusiastic about another potential large social convention and offered us a great rate when we approached them. Additionally, there’s a good deal of community overlap between us and MAGfest, so they’re already quite familiar with the furry community. With us being reasonable with our first year budget, we don’t expect any major financial issues and will be taking responsible steps to prevent any issues.

Regarding why we picked the Gaylord, there’s a few reasons. The National Harbor is a great area for a convention (plenty of food and entertainment options), the venue itself is fantastic with a ton of room to grow (we could grow into a major con without moving), and D.C. is an ideal location both for travel accessibility and its cultural tourism opportunities.

Are you aware that you share a similar name/acronym with a rather infamous furry convention?

Answer: Yes, though at the time we filed and picked our name, we were actually unaware that convention ever existed. Just to confirm, we do not have any shared staff with Capital City Fur Con at this time. Overall as long as we run a fun convention, we’re confident a good reputation will make that a non-issue.

You mentioned scaling with regards to the room block, what about the convention itself?

Answer: In the event that there is a massive community turn-out in pre-reg prior to October, we’re looking at the possibility of securing another ballroom for our main stage. Currently the convention itself is able to function well around 2.4k maximum attendees between all of our event space, which is above our internal attendee goals. However, we are able to scale and adjust if our goals are blown out of the water. We have contingency plans in place if this occurs.

As a convention director, you’re new and don’t have much experience with directing a con. How are you addressing this? Additionally, what's your staff’s general level of experience?

Answer: This is completely true. In-fact, I fully expect that we’ll make some mistakes along the way to and during our first year convention. One thing I am personally doing as the director is surrounding myself with smart, capable staff and giving them plenty of veto power in the event that I made a bad recommendation as well as giving them a great deal of freedom with planning the aspects of the event that they are being placed in charge of.

That being said, as someone who attends conventions as an attendee several times a year, I do recognize several failings most cons have (elevator/line con) and will be doing my best to try and minimize long standing convention issues at CFC as I will be directly running our operations and logistics. In the event that any logistics are bad, please rightfully bash me on social media.

Regarding our other staff, there’s actually a wide variety of experience on the team with both new players and long-time veterans. Additionally, we have a few consultants and contacts from other conventions who are giving us valuable insight to making this convention a success.

Closing Remarks

Thank you for taking the time to read through this massive wall of text! Obviously there’s more information that needs to be discussed like our main stage, partnered charity and convention events, but for now those are still in the early planning stages. We plan to release more information as we move forward with our convention planning. Specifically, we will have more information in the coming month with regards to registration!

Additionally, we will be launching a VRC group called Capital Fur Club on VRC where you can meet and discuss events with our public relations staff. Alternatively, if the community has any questions feel free to reach out to us on our website’s contact page: https://www.capitalfurcon.org/contact-us or snipe me for conversation if you see me at an event!

We look forward to seeing you at CFC 2027!

Sincerely,
McChaffee & CFC’s PR Team
